The Owosso Community Players kicked off their 2017-2018 season with 9 to 5: the Musical on September 8th.  The production runs through September 17th on the Lebowsky stage in Owosso.

This Tony- nominated musical features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. Set in 1979, the musical tells the story of three female coworkers who bond with each other over their mutual dislike of their smarmy, domineering boss, Mr. Hart. The overworked office manager, Violet (Alissa Britten), the jilted wife Judy (Mary Maurer) and the object of Hart’s lust, Doralee (OCP newcomer Claire Canfield), craft a plan to get rid of the sexist Hart (Quentin Brainerd).  But when things go awry, they unwittingly take Hart prisoner in his own house. While he is “away,” the women make some positive changes to their office.

“This show is such a great mix of upbeat and energetic music and scenarios,” said Maurer.  “Yet it touches on very relevant issues of gender relations that still exist in today’s society.”

“It’s really a story about embracing unexpected friendships and finding self worth,” added Britten.  “And it is a great example of female empowerment, with quite of bit of humor thrown in!”

Directed by OCP’s Artistic Director Garrett Bradley, the show includes a live 12-piece orchestra, conducted by Matt Meuwsee. Vocal direction is by Rachael Cupples, with choreography by Erica Duffield.

“We know this will be a great show to start our 2017-18 season,” said Bradley. “It has the exciting production numbers and humor that appeal to so many people.”  He notes that some of the humor is adult-themed.

Additional cast members include Rachael Cupples, Brennan Hattaway, Ethan Kohagen, Amy Winchell, Isabella Abaun, Josh Holliday, Jessica McClung, Anna Owens, Zach Crawford, James Geer, Erica Duffield, Taylor Engel, Miles Hayes, Caleb Johnson, Skylar Kleinschmidt, Sidney Kulhanek, Frankie Nevin, Macy Remenec, Sarah Rocco, Paige Sink, and Emma Wykes.
