The incident began before 9am when WNEM-TV reports the unidentified man broke into a residence and demanded car keys.  When a man in the home confronted the suspect, he left the home and entered another.

There, police surrounded him and attempted to negotiate a safe surrender.  Instead, the suspect eventually exited and fired upon police.  Police returned fire, but it was the suspect's own firearm, and by his own hand, that he died.
