It takes time to grow an audience. Usually.
Owosso Now launched in late 2016 and slowly began building an audience on social media. Years before that, however, the Facebook page Owosso News & Events began building an audience.
Both pages had very similar goals: to provide unbiased community news and information and to support and highlight the good things happening in Owosso.
That's why, upon the launch of Owosso Now, Daniel Harrow, the Publisher of Owosso News & Events, agreed to allow the distribution of Owosso Now stories and content to its audience.
Through the past several years, the social audiences of both pages have continued to grow, and on October 1st 2019, the pages officially grew together, becoming one, under the Owosso Now brand.
On September 20th, Harrow formally passed on the reins of Owosso News & Events to Owosso Now Publisher, Josh Strickland, and beginning on September 30th, by request, Facebook combined the two pages, officially growing the Owosso Now Facebook audience from just over 800 to more than 2,400.
Owosso Now is part of The Durand Now Network, whose combined social audience across the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube platforms now tops 31,000.
For those keeping score, that's more than The Argus-Press (20,057), The Independent (3,193), WOAP Radio (17,600), Z 92.5 The Castle (380) and 103.9 The Fox (9,743).
Total page views on Owosso Now from January 1st 2019 to August 31st 2019 topped 27,400. Network wide, the number approached 430,000.
