The stepmother of a 22 year old man working the Fire Ball ride at Curwood Festival over the weekend said in social media comments that he was transported to the hospital and was stable, but had lost part of his leg after a tragic accident that occurred just before the carnival opened on Saturday.

Curwood Festival Board President David Minarik said the man, who is from Owosso and employed by Skerbeck Family Carnival, was doing a safety check when he slipped and was injured, according to WJRT-TV.
The ride remained closed throughout the day on Saturday.
