Owosso Eats Drops Some Restaurants from Service

Owosso Eats May Not Deliver Your Usual Order Anymore, Here's Why

Owosso Eats announced in a Tuesday morning Facebook post that it has dropped all "locally owned, non-partnered" restaurants from its delivery options after the owner of one non-partner establishment wrote "a scathing post" claiming Owosso Eats was overcharging customers.

Jon Hockman launched Owosso Eats in 2017, giving residents the option of getting delivery from local restaurants that don't offer delivery.

"We intended on only delivering from locally owned mom & pop restaurants that we would partner up with," the Tuesday morning announcement from Owosso Eats reads.  "Almost immediately, we were asked to deliver non-partner restaurant meals by our customers."

Hockman explains what it means to be a partner restaurant, and how you -- the customer -- benefits.

Partner restaurants give a discount to Owosso Eats off the full menu price.  That's how Owosso Eats pays for things like insurance, website, dispatch, advertising, etc... -- the cost of doing business.  Drivers keep 100% of both the delivery fee and customer tip, Hockman said.

Without that partnership, in order to be able to deliver your meal to you without Owosso Eats losing money, there is an upcharge.

"These local partner restaurants are paying for the cost of our service instead of it being passed onto the customer."

Hockman said "Partner restaurants are clearly marked on our site. We have always urged customers to order from partner restaurants with top billing on our site, reduced delivery fees and FB advertising."

Local Owosso Eats partner restaurants include Greg & Lou's, El Potrero, Rival's Taphouse & Grille, Korner Pub, Rainbow Bar, Capitol's Grille and Guido's Coffee & Deli.

Hockman said "It truly hurts my heart to see the negative post about us spread through our small community."  Hockman, a nearly 40 year Owosso resident, said he came up with the idea for Owosso Eats more than 20 years ago.  Both he and his wife attended Owosso High School as do their two teenage sons today.

"We will continue to serve our partner restaurants."

In addition to its partner restaurants, Owosso Eats will continue delivering for the following chain, non-partner restaurants: Applebee's, Bob Evans, Little Caesars, Culver's, Big John Steak & Onion, KFC, Wendy's, Hardee's & Red Burrito, Arby's, Taco Bell, Burger King, McDonald's and Tropical Smoothie Cafe.
