Janet Goldstein is from Grand Blanc by way of Montreal, Canada. She paints from photographs taken on leisurely walks and often embellishes reality to achieve the desired effect in the painting. The group of paintings she will be featuring at SAC is an eclectic mix of scenes that one might chance upon while strolling through a meadow or by a lake or through the woods. Each painting is done with dry pastels and oil paints, but the artist has also mastered works in watercolor, acrylics, graphite, charcoal, Gouache and ink sticks.

Glen Lewis is best known for his paintings using vibrant color and a whirlwind of expression. He enjoys working in mixed media because of the versatility to use various mediums as well as a variety of drawing and painting techniques. His subject matter ranges from abstract expressionism to landscapes and wildlife. Glen is from St. Johns and received his BFA in painting from Western Michigan University.

Elizabeth Sevick and her father, Michael Sevick will be exhibiting their work together at SAC. Michael received his MFA from the University of Michigan and is currently a professor at UofM, Flint. He taught his daughter, Elizabeth how to paint, instilling in her a love for the medium at an early age. Throughout the years it has blossomed into a passion and career receiving her MFA from Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. Their work focuses on how they react confronted with the sublime in nature. Both have extensive exhibit histories having won many awards along the way.

Madison Van Epps is an emerging artist from Owosso. She is currently a student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor majoring in Public Health with a minor in Community Action & Social Change and Spanish. She has always enjoyed art, but through an acrylic painting class at the University she explored hyper realistic painting styles, mandalas and painting about social justice issues. Although this was an art class, she learned to use art to emphasize the Public Health and Social Justice issues that are important to her.

The Shiawassee Arts Center, located at 206 Curwood Castle Drive in Owosso, is open Monday through Friday, 12-5pm, Saturday and Sunday, 12-4pm. The Arts Center features the artwork of local and statewide artists in eight galleries including the Frieseke Gallery and a specialty Gift Shop. The public is welcome and there is no admission charge. SAC, which is celebrating its 47th anniversary in 2019, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage participation and appreciation of the arts. For more information call the Arts Center at 989.723.8354 or visit www.shiawasseearts.org.
