The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Shiawassee County through 8am Wednesday morning, calling for another 1 to 3 inches of snow.

We, along with much of the state, are already facing dangerously cold wind chills. A Wind Chill Warning has is in effect until Thursday morning. For the next two nights wind chills will bottom out as low as 32 degrees below zero and we won't get much above 20 below zero at any point during the day, forecasters say.

Experts are urging parents and caregivers to keep kids indoors. Likewise, the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office reminds residents that animal neglect is a crime. Like people, animals quickly become at risk of hypothermia, frostbite and even death. If you suspect it, call 989-743-9112.

The sub-zero wind chills we're facing are characterized as life-threatening.

Check on your neighbors, particularly the elderly and those with small children. Be mindful of pets.

Be aware of available warming centers.

In Corunna, Immanuel Baptist Church will be open all night Tuesday until 7am Wednesday.

In Durand, Stomping Grounds Coffee Shop will welcome guests from 6am to 8pm on Wednesday.

In Owosso, O Town Cafe is open 24/7 through Friday to welcome any seeking warmth.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, and it's a warm light. Friday begins a warm up that will crank temps right up to near 50 degrees above zero by Sunday.
