There's a fair chance that we're not the first to tell you this. Everybody has been talking about it for the past 24 hours. You're probably long-tired of hearing about it, so, we're sorry.

And if we are the first to tell you this -- we're really sorry!

A Polar Vortex is set to swallow Michigan and much of the U.S. beginning Monday and it could plunge temperatures and wind chills lower than we've seen them in about 25 years, in some places.

The wind chill could drop next week as low as -30 to -50 degrees. Yes, that's farenheit, to be clear. The American Model shows a -42 degree wind chill in Detroit at 7am on Thursday morning next week. It depends on whose version of the forecast you're looking at as to exactly how cold it could feel and where, but everyone is in agreement, it's going to be insanely cold. We won't top 15 degrees at all next week, and some days we won't break single digits, and it will be windy -- really windy -- bringing a real feeling of life in Antartica.

But that's not all.

On Monday, the forecast for mid-Michigan is calling for snow. Not just a dusting either. Again, forecast models vary, but most are calling for six-plus inches of snow.

The Weather Channel predicts 5 to 8 inches during the day for the Lansing area and another 1 to 3 inches in the evening. And that's just Monday!

More snow is possible Tuesday and Wednesday, and another round of accumulating snow is predicted for the following Monday, bringing another 1 to 3 inches. Don't forget the wind! All that snow is going to be blowing, making driving incredibly treacherous.

Not a fan of The Weather Channel? Accuweather says Monday's storm total is 4 to 8 inches, and they agree that more snow could be back on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Not to play into the cliche, but... you might want to hit the grocery store this weekend.

It's been cold enough, but we begin our descent into truly frigid temperatures tonight. It'll be Wednesday or Thursday morning next week that we experience the very coldest wind chills in this spell, but forecasters are suggesting we may be riding -20 day time wind chills most of the week.
