Betty Jean Phillips, 93, of Traverse City, formerly of Owosso, passed away peacefully at Medi-Lodge of Grand Traverse County. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 1:00pm at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel 520 W. Main St. Owosso. The Phillips family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm, on Thursday, December 19, 2019.
Betty was born in Owosso, Michigan on April 3. 1926 to the late Delbert W. and Maude G. (Hatt) Sperbeck. On June 26, 1976 Betty married John Edward Phillips. She spent her working life at Redmonds and babysitting children. She loved reading mystery novels, cooking, listening to Johnny Cash, and couldn’t be trusted when playing cards because she liked to cheat. Betty was a very kind soul, she was always there to help someone and give them a hand up. She loved her life, her husband, and her family. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word about everyone that she encountered.
Betty is survived by her husband of 43 years John, her children; Rod & Sue Rust, Roy Rust, and Jeanie McNamara. Her grandchildren; Tonya & Gerald Ballard Jr. Tammy & Stephen Carse, Angela & Lance Sabo, Matthew McNamara, Kimberly & Dave Gilkey, Daniel Rust, Adam Rust, and Brent Rust, also, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren, and her brother, Bob.
She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings; Harold, Russ, Vera, Laura, Mardell, and Clara, also her grandsons; Timothy Dickinson, Jason McNamara, and Chad Rust.
Memorial contributions in Mrs. Phillips name are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
